The Conservative Party Leadership contest has started. Sort of. Standing rules say candidates need notices of exclusive support from 100 Conservative MPs. There are only 121 Conservative MPs. The Party 1922 Committee can change the rules. But only two remain, so they need to form a new committee...

To understand what's happening here, and why this is a amazing change of how things work, traditionally the sub-department 'Ministers of State' have been party MPs, so they can be compelled to support the Government on bills. This time, it's non-politicians with experience in the field!

ELEMENTARY has dropped on Hulu (was it there before and I hadnā€™t seen it?) and as Iā€™m busted with COVID, Iā€™m indulging. The pilotā€™s a masterclass, the showā€™s an A+ example of procedural writing, balancing the serialization and B plots.

*sigh* The Worldcon Protection League continue to insist that if they keep WIP's income below $500 Dollars it magically protects the Worldcons from being considered a Franchise for tax purposes. Despite there being seven figure surplus funds transferred around under WSFS ownership.

I suggest that you not take my word for it. And ask a Tax Lawyer what the WSFS structure looks like to the Tax authorities of the States and Countries it operates in. Because I do not think that WIP's limiting it's income to less than $500 protects the whole of WSFS's income from being considered.

I have never claimed to be a lawyer. The federal and California state regulations you quoted to claim I was lying, are about the "direct or indirect payment of at least $500". I did not lie about that, and explicitly said 2.9.3 seems to make surplus transfers indirect payments.

I've decided to wash my hands of Worldcon, because I do not have the energy to spend on it. But I will note that all the discussion and debate doesn't seem to even want to acknowledge or address that the Trademarks for the Worldcon and Hugo Awards were entirely transferred to a private company.

Americans commenting on the UK Elections. No Shin Fien winning the most NI seats does not mean what you think it means. It's seats in the Westminster parliament, not "The Government of Northern Ireland", which is the devolved powers in Stormont. Which is under a sectarian power-sharing agreement.
