I keep the cat happy.
You've got enough material for volumes of history books - hope (all of you) are keeping it out of reach. Get this feeling we're already living in Orwell's world and haven't fully grasped it yet.
Keep up the good work.

That it accomplishes anything? Or doesn't accomplish anything? I'm hung up on that word. What exactly this all "accomplishes" is open to interpretation.
Words still better than bullets. I'm going down yelling my head off. I suggest every real person out there do the same. 😉

And I would dare say that people like emptywheel, digby, and atrios are accomplishing something crucial to humanity: They are recording history in a time where the "official" record is easily memory-holed. 20 years or so of how this all went down will be useful.
Preserve the sacred scrolls! (lol)

We're getting to the point where any act of self-expression from a real person is an "accomplishment." Keep it up.
"...nothing can stand in the way of the power of millions of voices calling for change..."
Still believe, but the window is closing. Rs pre-emptive threats of violence are deliberate.

Landed me a job writing for the Ds, where I worked very hard to elect... Obama/Biden in '08.
Then in 2012, I worked for a national cable news show, and wrote for national publications to elect... Obama/Biden.
I am living proof that this post is dead wrong, and also, be careful what you wish for.

Never blame LSD when corruption explains everything. Big donors are driving this, the headlines have said as much. When do Ds act of their own volition?
A lot of people suddenly realized their personal Gravy Train is being imperiled as well.
Good thing most of America is tuned out right now.

Watching these dipshits implode does not instill confidence that they would be able to switch out Joe, even if Joe himself wanted to go.

Warner is running in '26. He will be nearing 80 at the end of that term.
Perhaps he should lead the way, show us how it's done, and drop out of his re-election bid now? Just to be sure?
No? Didn't think so.

For the record, I think it's a huge long shot as well, not the best idea mostly because I don't trust them to handle it, and I still don't think Joe will quit.
Pulled in by the spitballing. And it is terrifying.
But here we are. These are not normal times, so hard to compare with past on odds.

But seriously, why is he here? Thrown together event that drew 100 people or so? Figure he’s shaking some lakeshore money trees as well.
And where’s Gretch? Are they collaborating? 😜
The intrigue!

Big Story here is Gavin campaigning in a beach town, because Michigan is the best place to be in July. Even CA knows. 😎
Jill was here, summer nutrition for kids, with Stabenow.
I’ve had the sound off on the TV, but I kid you not, every time I look up, it’s Jan 6th. Full blitz.
Are we the test?

At this point I think she's better at talking about *anything*, even if she's being goofy. Breath of fresh, positive, happy, hopeful, energetic air compared to these two.
IF they do it right. So far they're not.
May alienate olds pushing Joe out. Misogyny back big. 🤔
So much to consider.

We've gotta get the kids back, and if they play their cards right, I *think* she can do it.
Would take some serious policy breaks, particularly Gaza, and I don't think they're willing to go there.
Need to get back to being referendum on Trump/GOP. Would certainly flip the ageism script.
Oy vey.

All this needed to happen in January, but then there's the possibility of contested primaries, and they couldn't have that either.
Fine mess the Ds have gotten us into this time.

Crypto ad at the Bad Place insinuates most all our lawmakers are too old to protect (their) interests. Here comes a big wave of ageism from "elites."
Hey Boomers, you're too old to hold power, but not too old to continue working as a servant for the wealthy.
Are you really going to accept that?

Expecting a lot of gallows humor today, “enjoy the last one!” sort of thing, but if the last five years have taught me anything, it’s to expect the unexpected. Who knows where this ends up.

All of this feels like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic anyway, given the rogue Supreme Court. They have radically altered America, and we haven't seen all the ramifications yet. They will continue to do so.
The Ds are reluctant to use Congress and Executive to challenge the power grab, so...

This is not getting enough attention. Party rules may "provide a path" but Trump judges will not.
Utter quagmire that would take the focus off of Trump and GOP ending America as we know it.

ABC:
"Biden privately signals 'open mind' on path forward, next few days critical: Sources"
followed by:
"Biden is not considering dropping out of the race, White House says"
Both nets lead with "Joe leaving," immediately followed by "Joe not leaving."
This is the push.

Man, the headlines are all over the board.
NBC, right now:
"Democratic Party rules show a clear path to replace Biden if he were to step aside"
followed by:
'I'm not leaving': Biden expands effort to tamp down calls to step aside
Seeing a variation of this everywhere.

Also trying to imagine an armed and organized “left.” Who exactly is he referring to?

Us older Xers lean Boomer, as evidenced by what I just did there. Way different life experience from those born in 1980.
Have to admit, if it's between the Mad King, Grandpa Joe, or someone my age, I'll roll the dice with Kamala. 🤷

If it's "fall in line" time I want Obama on the stump every goddamn day until the election. Surrogates on triple-time. Whitmer can just start the day with TV makeup on.
I want high production values on the ads. Joe by Day/ Kamala by Night. Make her cool.
Uncork the fucking wallets and let's go.

Whoa, just checked the ratings, which I missed last week. WAY down from 2020. 30% decline.
84M Clinton-Trump
73M Biden-Trump 20
51M Biden-Trump 24
Part of that is the June timing. Sept will draw more. But still.
Between this and cratering of news ratings in general, maybe we're just tuning out.

Back to reality.
There's no "both sides" in the news anymore - they are totally in the bag for Trump. Nothing about his lies. Nothing about his blatant racism. All focus on Biden.
The real knee-slapper is I'm getting better balanced coverage from Sinclair than CBS, although both are really bad.

It's been a joy to watch small, conservative towns and communities in Michigan hold their "first-ever" celebrations over the last few years.
South Haven was another first this year; I'm sure there were others. Well-attended, food, music, and stuff to buy, a good time had by all.

We can all debate whether America will elect a Black woman as president in the abstract, but will this electorate choose a sane, competent and centrist politician who is under the age of 60 instead of a convicted felon and chaos agent? I will take those odds.

Whatever you're going to do, do it fast. If we/they go this route, Obama needs to call up his Hollywood friends and put the big, hipster, cool, fire, whatEVER they call it these days, SELL on her, and engage the kids. Now.
Still don't see Joe quitting. Could be wrong.

One last thing: Bernie Woulda Won.
He was out vigorously campaigning in WI that day, and I guarantee you sounded more coherent than Biden. Would have called out lies and presented facts.

We will see if the media drops it, and moves on. It's a vacation week. America is busy with other things. Debates don't move dials, etc, play it out.

Bottom line: Ds could nominate a pet rock and still get my vote. Donald Trump must NOT be allowed near the WH, and WHY is this a question. Please.
That being said, Harris has foreign policy chops over Whitmer, knows DC, might not be a bad president. She's grown. Happily vote for her, given FASCISM.

Ove 10 years ago, we had Kamala on the show. Up and coming CA AG. Hard to get.
In person, she was sharp, vivacious, friendly, just a really nice lady. But for whatever reason, it doesn't come across on camera. And she laughed at everything. I nicknamed her "Giggles."
Still beats Trump, hands down.

Starting to wonder if Big Media being in the bag for Trump is going to backfire. No normies I know like or respect the press.
Sad it’s come to that, but they made this bed.
