At least in the PNW, a standard house A/C will lower ambient temp by 22 degrees. Fine when hot days were low 90s, but we hit 100 now and then now. It was on all afternoon struggling to hold 73 yesterday, and I changed the big filter and it instantly dropped a degree. It helps.

Fun fact 2: the circular architectural theme carries into the barrel hall, where the barrels form an enormous circle you can only see half of. Each barrel has a red stripe on the side, overlapping the bung, so splashed wine doesn’t stain. The whole thing is a giant, mesmerizing optical illusion.

Opus fun fact. The winery is in a geothermal area, and the barrel hall requires a lot of A/C to keep it at what everybody else’s wineries is the desirable temperature naturally.

It was very much stacked in his favor. Getting over it, accepting how much of it was my fault for letting it develop as it did, and then forgiving myself, was not easy. I rarely see him, but it’s quite chill when we do.

Eventually I’ll age out of motorcycles. I used to think I’d substitute something like a Monster Miata. Now, I’m thinking a kei pickup. A lower power EV conversion with enough pun intended juice to drive on the freeway would be absolutely ideal.

Putting the brakes on Bibi, letting the Ukrainians do what they want with the goodies, and descheduling weed would easily do it. But I don’t know if Biden could or would, certainly not as much as he might, and Harris for all her strengths less likely. The admin looks to be foot dragging on all 3.

Kamala Harris wants to be elected president and is intimately aware of the situation in the Biden administration. If she would be the hero of the Democratic party and of US democracy by knifing Biden in the back, she would have every reason to do it. She isn't doing it, so it's not a safe move.

An ex was a huge wine snob. Instead of art, his dining room was decorated with case stacks of his verticals. I’m friends with someone at Opus One, and I got us on their weekly trade tour, which is far more in depth than what most get to see. It’s the only time I think I ever truly impressed him.

One long ago day in Marin, on the freeway, I caught up to a Mercedes GWagen with what looked like 2 very expensive mountain bikes on the back. The driver had a pair of large and zoomy shades on. I tapped the horn so I could give him a thumbs up, and he turned toward me and grinned. Robin Williams.

Late response on this, but Tedward strikes an excellent balance betw driving and talking, and doesn’t get too inside baseball, unlike Mr Thiss. Cocktail party knowledge. Being family helps, too, though he never makes a deal out of it.

The father of my high school nemesis had one. Deliberation seemed necessary, no speed shifts, for sure. The cars in my house were an early Suburban, and a Fiat 850 that was the unholy result of an unfortunate one nighter between a Ferrari Daytona and a VW Beetle. The Citroen was extraterrestrial.

From the bike world, a Honda Africa Twin with the smartypants DCT transmission. Quite familiar to Porsche’s PDK, but extremely unusual on a bike. Five shift programs of escalating aggression, it never ever chose the wrong gear, and also knew when not to shift.
