Could you imagine any journalist saying that Siouxie Sue, or any other of the punk women of that era, was a bad role model because she was 34, unmarried and childless, they would have received the appropriate response: f**k right off! Some people want to return to the 1950s.

Nothing more threatening than a talented, wealthy independent woman. That’s a woman out of their control, so she is an ‘unnatural’ woman. American political & religious groups have been trying to regain control over women & their bodies. They fear any woman with autonomy. It’s too much like power.
