I've had access to FFXIV Dawntrail since pre-release dropped. I am like half way through MSQ, and I've been on PTO all week. I've been ill the last few days, and it's not been great. Low key concerned with some of the health stuff, but on the plus side, I have rowntree ice lollies.

There are some genuinely good use cases for Gen Ai in legal tech, such as first pass contract generation, redline review and playbook interrogation, etc... Is it over hyped, absolutely, but there are definitely some solid uses for LLMs in law.

Honestly, the infosec community is kinda toxic. There's always random bullying and drama from what I've experienced over the years. It's almost like it's a baked in part of the experience, which sucks. I'm sorry to hear you've have to deal with this for so long ๐

Also, I find with infosec folks, I tend to just cut people out now or directly challenge bad behaviour. I've had mixed results, but as someone in my 30s, I just cba dealing with egos in tech.

This is how I got through high school. I grew up in a rough neighbourhood, so you couldn't appear weak. If you didn't deal with bullying behaviour as it happened, you would forever be a target. You had to make it not worth it somehow.

Mint Zorin OS Kubuntu Fedora These 4 are probably the best for a new linux user. Zorin OS looks and feels like windows out of the box. I've been using it a lot recently. Mint is probably the most commonly recommended these days. It used to be Ubuntu, but it has fallen from grace a little.

It's janky as hell so far but I haven't done much config editing. I've noticed issues with windows cnative compositor and powertools but so far, this is pretty cool.

Outside of tiling WMs, I'm a slut for KDE so I get what you mean. I guess the thing that's struck me the most with Zorin, is that I kleep forgetting it's gnome, which is impressive. I've only been using it for a few days. Definitely need to research more.

Oh no! Was this recently? Based on my research, they had a bad way of upgrading in the past but it has since been changed for the better (for instance, upgrading to pro required a re-install)

Historically I've been a huge critic of gnome. I haven't actively use it in years because iot's bloated and bot fuin to use. Zoirn has a custom configuration that's kind of made me forget it's gnome. I'm still early in my journey, but so far, it's pretty great.

The reality is that internal teams are often behind in terms of their standard tech baseline (using manual data conversions in excel etc..) From a commercial perspective, no one wants supplier AI in their environment and most start-ups are focusing on narrow use cases that general models destroy.

As someone working in "Research, Development & Applied AI" ... I agree. There are some genuine benefits to GenAI, however there is a lot of copium and postering of middle to senior IT managers to adopt to "bleeding edge change".

Completely baffled at the advice I keep seeing for people to use Arch for gaming, it's wild. I updated arch the other day on my main box and it broke my wifi for 2 days. I had to do a lot of work around secrets management just to fix it. Not newbie friendly at all.

I've recently been converted to Zorin for new linux users. It's an ubuntu based distro that doesn't use snapos by default. It completely steers you towards the discovery package manager and gives you a bunch of out of the box theme options. It's the closest to windows/mac out of the box I've seen.

I've heard Arch is pretty good for steam. My only concern is that Arch requires some effort to maintain, and I wouldn't say it's a great entry point to linux. That being said, I just try running some games on my Arch install!

It's brutal at the moment. Spreading domain knowledge so wide just means reduced cover and more mistakes imo. You /should/ have dedicated SMEs for important things. Sounds like your place is doing it right (assuming there's a good skill/traffic fit)

I get wanting someone to have Fundamentals in networking Bd monitoring, but I've found what places are asking for goes well beyond foundational. It will be interesting to see how things play out with shadow IT GenAI apps start hitting prod all over the place in orgs.
