Sometimes when I have clients with really ugly and sad logos I redesign them just a tiny bit and hope they don't notice.

Maaaan. I've seen some fuuugly business logos. The art designer I worked with was physically pained with every one he saw. I'd troll him by sending him ones I'd come across the internet just for him to go on a rant. 😆

The problem is if they already registered the logo you didn't like so maybe talk to them rather than jeopardizing them. :/
