Recently heard of the passing away of John Humphreys, the precision engineer and machine tool maker of the Science Workshop, The University of Auckland. John had many interests, including making of working miniature Stirling heat engines. He taught me to windsurf. Always reliable, generous and good.

A cybercrime story worth reading: Connor Jones' case study of physical and emotional harm caused by a cyber attack. As a cybersecurity veteran I think we should have been doing more to expose the wide ramifications of inadequate cybercrime deterrence; these include damage to our lives and wellbeing.

An Englishman walks into a Swiss bank. He goes to the teller, puts his face close to the glass, and whispers, “I have 2 million pounds and need to open a secret Swiss bank account.” The teller replies, “Sir, there’s no need to whisper. Poverty is nothing to be ashamed of in Switzerland.”
