I imagine you would enjoy seeing it done. He builds and repairs the hedges in the winter because it's easier to work with a bare plant. I went back in his post to take a screenshot of a photo he posted of a young hedge that's still being worked on.

Cool fence. I follow a forest ranger in Lincolnshire, UK on the place-that-must-not-be-named and one of his winter projects was building 100+ feet of new hedge and the cedar fence reminds me a bit of how he started.

I was hoping the storms would make their way over here as we need the rain (most of Indiana is either abnormally dry or moderate drought) but it looks like they fizzled out somewhere over Illinois.

Yep, they do. Equipment is wrapped to keep it dry. There are wading shoes made for slots but people also use sandals or sneakers. They also bring ropes to raise and lower packs over pour-offs (basically a dry waterfall). People wearing bigger packs often have to take their packs off.

And hiring decisions are usually made on all kinds of intangibles. For example: the person 'fit' in better, or he/she had right type of personality for the job or the search committee liked the way you listened (this one was said to me when I asked why I was picked).

Depends on how the pillows are situated. She likes them stacked up so if they aren't, she'll often move them around until they are. She's a medium medium-sized dog (medium is 16-22" tall at the shoulder and 20-60 lbs. Flit is 18" and 40 lbs).

Since this piece is arranged for a string orchestra, I wondered if anyone had done an arrangement for a quartet and learned I had it backwards: Adagio for Strings was arranged for string orchestra from the second movement of his String Quartet, Op. 11.

Hoo boy, do I agree with you on The Extinction of Irina Rey. What a disappointment. I felt that Winspear was well aware of what her long-time readers would want from a conclusion to the series and she ably gave it to us.

Here's something I don't see very often (as in I have 6 photos of this happening between 2006 and 2024). I guess that's good given how much I'd have to spend on suet. (Taken through the glass door because pileated #woodpeckers are very skittish & bolt at the slightest sound.)

Every time the New York Times published another article about Biden's age while ignoring Trump's much worse problems, I knew I needed to cancel my subscription but I didn't because I read most of the book reviews. They've finally gone too far, calling for Biden to step down. Subscription cancelled.

You can't go into the actual cave but touring the exact replica that was reproduced down to the locations of the pebbles on the cave floor was a spectacular experience.

All categories of rocks are found in #Utah but it's the sedimentary #rocks that give me the most delight (they dominate southeast Utah where we were hiking). I especially enjoy looking at all the layers & trying to understand their formation.

I feel ya. Even though we have 40 acres of woods and are surrounded by thousands of acres of trees, nothing makes me happier than seeing baby trees, especially baby ash trees (we lost all our mature ash trees to the emerald ash borer).
