Groak or Growk [grohk]
(v.)
-Staring silently at someone while they eat, in the hope that they will offer you some food.
Used in a sentence:
“The ambrosial redolence wafting from the delightsome smorgasbord had my pups groaking throughout the holiday repast.”

Here's something I don't see very often (as in I have 6 photos of this happening between 2006 and 2024). I guess that's good given how much I'd have to spend on suet. (Taken through the glass door because pileated #woodpeckers are very skittish & bolt at the slightest sound.)

Every time the New York Times published another article about Biden's age while ignoring Trump's much worse problems, I knew I needed to cancel my subscription but I didn't because I read most of the book reviews. They've finally gone too far, calling for Biden to step down. Subscription cancelled.

I hope you get to go. As a bonus, it's in the Ardeche so you can easily visit the Pont d'Arc and the Ardeche River gorges.

You can't go into the actual cave but touring the exact replica that was reproduced down to the locations of the pebbles on the cave floor was a spectacular experience.

Have no idea why this Anatole France quote is wandering around in my head today: "“The law, in its majestic equality, forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal their bread.”

Thankfully most nocturnal critters stay away -- decades of having dogs have convinced them they are better places to hang out but nothing dissuades raccoons.

I'd love to send you all of ours -- we have to take our hummingbird feeders down at night because otherwise they knock them down to get at the sugar water.

Okay -- I love Marie Brennan's Memoirs of Lady Trent series (1st book: A Natural History of Dragons) and the gorgeous illustrations are the icing on exceptionally delicious and perfectly made cakes, er books.

All categories of rocks are found in #Utah but it's the sedimentary #rocks that give me the most delight (they dominate southeast Utah where we were hiking). I especially enjoy looking at all the layers & trying to understand their formation.

She only stays in a few minutes until she gets good and wet. But she doesn't care if I'm around or not. She goes off to get wet all her own all the time.

I feel ya. Even though we have 40 acres of woods and are surrounded by thousands of acres of trees, nothing makes me happier than seeing baby trees, especially baby ash trees (we lost all our mature ash trees to the emerald ash borer).
