A problem with written history is that the meaning of words changes over time. "Silly" was Old English "saelig" -- blissful. Then it came to mean holy. Then noble. Then innocent. Then harmless. Then pitiful/weak. Then ignorant. Until reaching its modern meaning of goofy/childish/absurd.

Worst experience of my life: Watching my dad die a slow, miserable death while knowing that as soon as my aging dog no longer had a quality life, I could take her to the vet and deal with it, but couldn't do the same for Dad.
