I find it particularly egregious that they are posting this dangerous nonsense during Preeclampsia Awareness Month!
Preeclampsia is still one of the top 3 causes of maternal mortality.
It is still one of the primary causes of premature birth, fetal & neonatal death

Of course, I don’t know why I would expect different from conference organizers who don’t believe in germ theory or viruses & who invite guest speakers who have had inappropriate sexual relationships with their patients. Excellent article by Dr. Jennifer Gunter:

One of the organizers then goes on to provide medical advice in the comments, including discouraging women from taking low-dose ASA for preeclampsia prevention.
Low-dose ASA is THE ONLY evidence-based prevention strategy for preeclampsia currently

They go on to explain the “Brewer emergency protocol” which consists of eating protein-rich foods, restricting fluid intake, and increasing salt.
Nice that they add a little disclaimer at the end to “seek medical advice when needed”

They choose to explain the etiology of preeclampsia using outdated & thoroughly debunked theories, including Dr. Brewer’s dietary hypothesis (from the 1950s/60s)
No, preeclampsia is NOT caused by malnutrition/protein deficiency! Preeclampsia is caused by THE PLACENTA

I’ve posted previously about London Ontario’s very own “Reclaiming Birth Conference,” scheduled September 20-21. Its organizers are a group of “freebirthing” advocates & antivaxxers
Their latest Instagram post is focused on preeclampsia & is unsurprisingly full of dangerous disinformation

Wait, wait. Let me get this straight. Former drug dealer Doug Ford is lecturing the feds and experts about safe consumption of drugs? I hate the upside down. What is up with this timeline!?

The problem with the current discourse of "It's a luxury & a privilege to be a SAHM that not everyone can afford" is that, although true for some, not every woman wants to be a SAHM, even if she has the ability. It's ok to choose to be a working mom.
