At the end of a long hike, the skies suddenly opened up. We were almost to the car when a pair of Sandhill Cranes appeared in the rain. This one just looked at me with disinterest as I awkwardly balanced my camera under the umbrella. #birds 🌿

I was standing at the beach watching pelicans when this Caspian Tern flew directly in front of me. They're the largest tern species and quite impressive close up. #birds 🌿

So pretty! They’re the state flower of MN but I’ve never seen one. I’ve seen other lady slippers and they’re all impressive, but the showy lady slipper seems like it would be extra special.

Long-billed Curlew is one of the most common species at a site I've begun monitoring this summer, and also a sensitive wetland species of concern to the state. Just doing a bit of sketching to help me understand proportions because boy they're kinda goofy, that beak is so long! 🎨🪶🐡🌎

Times call for some goofy birds. Please take a look at this slightly derpy Great Blue Heron. (Who appeared to be looking directly at me with both of his eyes at the same time, and has a little feather in his beak!) The very next shot, he looks just like your standard, elegant GBH.

I have a bit of a bitter collecting problem (as in, I keep getting more bitters lol). Using them is fizzy water is one of my favorites! So many great flavors to explore. And now that I have a drinkmate, I never run out of soda water, either.

Managed to catch this Squacco Heron as he was passing among the reeds. The blue nape/bill at this time of the year is so pronounced and great dreadlocks! #birds #ElHondo #PhotographyBreak

They’re very hit or miss here. Some years I see them in an area, and then I go a long stretch not seeing them at all.
