Didn't do that for lab... but last summer's "my colleagues think I'm kinda nuts" purchase was a full-size poster printer. Yes, there's the campus print shop... but 7+ day lead times during term doesn't cut it.

They’re who I should have gone with years ago for our home server (qnap was a mistake). I rebuilt it a few years later around a M1 Mac Mini and a giant external drive, but that’s because it became a Plex box, not a media archive & science backup.

Trinitron; I’d inherited them from a retired faculty member… and hadn’t the heart to pitch them even though my lab doesn’t use them for experiments. Got chatting with a colleague who still *does* - colleague drove 3 hours each way to collect them.
