Finally, my two Chinese garden mantises, Superstar and Major Tom, are both too young to have much personality. Superstar has figured out that she should walk down the wall when I open her enclosure, to be better positioned for moisture and fruit flies.

I have one ghost mantis, Liliana. She's very calm and reserved, and prefers not to be handled.
My spiny flower mantis, Elspeth, is a good little killer who gladly comes out to visit, but will try to stab anything that moves.

I have two Giant Rainforest mantises, Wrenn and Tyvar. They're approximately the same age, but Wrenn is much larger and more aggressive. She kills prey at least twice the size of Tyvar's. He's a sweet coward who runs from crickets.

I have five right now, and the woman who'll be taking care of them has asked all the right questions: species? Age? Currently eating what? Things could still go wrong--they're insects--but I feel good about it.

the exploitation of this Chevron ruling is just getting warmed up and is going to ratfuck every last effort at policy reform or corporate oversight across every sector and issue in the country

(I am cis. I am also fat, autistic, and a victim of CSA. There is no jury more unforgiving than elementary school-aged children. They judged me subhuman, and my pronouns were "it" and "piggy" until I was fourteen.)

When an article says "some scientists think" then remember this: I, a scientist, once thought I could fit a whole orange in my mouth. I could, it turns out, get it in there, but I hadn't given sufficient thought to the reverse operation.

No worries, and thank you! I have Trauma (tm) around being denied the right to be a girl, and am very firm about my femme pronouns.

I am very, very much a "she," and it says as much in my bio. :) Please don't "they" me.

They've been acting like they'll never lose another election, and so here we are, where elections matter less each cycle.
Remember that they wouldn't try so hard to keep us from voting if it didn't matter. Turnout and undeniable numbers are how we can push back now, and hopefully the future.

I AM RELEASED FROM NDA SHACKLES. Lucasfilm finally gave artists permission to post their Season 1 Young Jedi Adventures work! I mostly have been responsible for color scripts, but did do some character design early on! I loved developing the kitten version of the Loth/Tooka cat!

I can fully understand that. But if you go too deep into your own head, you're more likely to slip (I'd say ask me how I know, but you know how I know).

I have finished SOVEREIGN, the second book in the Nemesis series by @aprildaniels.bsky.social, and I am pleased to report that there is no second-book drop in quality: it's hard, sharp, sincere, and absolutely delightful.
