If your job title is more important than your pay and conditions, then the University will just steamroll you into being paid less, and being expected to do more, with "but you work in shiny places" and "your work is world changing". /Fin

3 - the UK academic sector is traditionally shit at collective bargaining compared to other places (e.g. Canada). The University upper admin hold the power here. 3/

I look at some of these jobs and just hard nope at the idea of stepping up (at least for the moment). Often it seems that it's unforgiving, and increasingly a poisoned chalice if you want to steer the "ship" in a different direction.
