Agreed. I thought the searcher could’ve paced a bit better but to me the tension of the gold rush provided enough thrill that I didn’t need an immediate murder lol

Also thought this was a step up from The Searcher (which I still enjoyed.) I could spend 400 pages just reading Mart’s conversations lol. Also I generally don’t listen to audiobooks but did for these and the narrator is fantastic

if anybody out there is looking for mystery recs, Tana French’s The Hunter (sequel to The Searcher) is worth a read. Slow paced, and more of a western than a mystery novel, but the tension increases at a good clip as you can sense a small town disaster looming

A dual U.S.-Saudi citizen is facing a long prison sentence and an even longer travel ban for "extremist ideology" over his cartoon comedy on Netflix and old social media posts. It's not the first time, and likely not the last, that Saudi Arabia has targeted U.S. citizens for their speech.

UK police arrested five protesters and seized coconuts they held outside a courthouse where Marieha Hussain was appearing. Hussain was charged with "a racially aggravated public order offence" for holding a placard depicting Rishi Sunak and Suella Braverman as coconuts at a protest in November.

also: there’s no customer service phone line. they eliminated it. and this is what I get when I use the chat function on the app. No explanation of when they will have a rep available, just an automated reply that they’re busy. You almost have to respect how brazenly they hate customers. Almost.

oh yeah on my flight from BOS to PHL (that should've landed around 6pm) they eventually got us there after 1am and unceremoniously dumped the passengers in the airport. Fortunately I live here so I went home but I don't think they had hotels/transportation figured out for the other passengers

so i filed a complaint to american airlines after our plane sat on the tarmac for a combined ~6 hours at two different airports (one we weren't supposed to land in) with no water for passengers and they sent me an automated reply and have not responded to any follow up emails lol
