I read the story and all I could think was what the hell is she doing bringing a green dog hunting? And thinking "it'll learn from the other dogs" is plain stupid. Clearly she has no idea how this whole thing works. Poor dog.

Killing that dog wasn't a "tough choice". It's not like it was that or the family would miss a meal. There certainly were days like that, that if the hound got in the chicken coop and started eating eggs the family could really be hurt. Not this.
