What is it about that movie that really gives it a look like it’s from the late 50s? Do you know what I mean? Is it the film? Is it something in the direction or the way, the shots were composed? That’s what struck me the first time I saw it, the only time I saw it in a theater.

Even though the Spielberg version retains a lot of the changes that were made for the 1961 version, I’m so glad he moved. I feel pretty back to its place in the stage show after the rumble.

I’m on my first intermission. On stage there are only 2 acts, but films are usually in a 3 act structure and to me this film’s first act ends after the fire escape scene. The second acts after the rumble, which is the first act of the stage version ends.

It’s hard to take to the streets when your healthcare is tied to your employment, or when you live paycheck to paycheck, etc. Someone who decides to attend a general strike and then loses their job now runs the risk of being jailed if they can’t a roof over their heads.
