Every day I hear some variation of “I don’t know the names of my meds, my wife takes care of all that” and it has me wondering just how many men in this country are being kept alive by their wives. I think a conservative estimate has got to be at least 50,000,000
I forget the exact percentage, but there is a significant portion of old men who die within the first year after their long time partner dies, and it's assumed to be for this very reason.
My favorite is when I asked a patient how are you feeling today? He looked at his wife and asked her how am I’m feeling today. 😂 Routinely patients describe their pills by color 🤦♀️
Had a lung transplant patient who started rejecting bc his wife manages his meds and she herself is starting to develop dementia. So that’s good and normal and cool
This may have changed with Gen X, but in the USA up through the Boomers older widowers usually only survive their deceased wife by, on average, two years.
Literally today "I haven't been feeling well for like a month and my wife was begging me to come in every day and so I finally came in today and my hemoglobin is 3."
