Personally interviewed Gascon when he was running as a “progressive prosecutor” etc and it’s these constant little betrayals that ring out when people exhort us to engage the process and trust the system.

It feels like poor political calculus on the DA's part — alienating the coalition that got him elected. And guranteeing that victims will now turn to the press to have their stories told rather than trusting the process — which is going to make Gascon look really bad.

This is also a big part of my frustration with blanket statements about the left not being willing to engage the system or accept compromise. There’s a ton of instances where that’s simply not the case, and if anything the compromises of the left have been wholly taken for granted as if they’re owed
