You can say that you’re tired of being told this is The Most Important Election Of Our Lives, but the reality is that preventing a coup is going to take overwhelming numbers of votes for the foreseeable future and if you aren’t willing to vote all the time you have to be ready for The Consequences.
It remains a huge problem that the reality of the right disregarding democracy on a wholesale level is so far out of a normie person’s expectations that it sounds crazy.
now, you say that, but it misses a huge elephant in the room - the mega rich have hands in both sets of sock puppets, and until their hands are wrested from the levers of political and media influence, America and all westminster style democracies are emperilled - and voting wont fix that.
Also, like…we aren’t asking you to give blood or donate an organ. We’re asking you to vote. Depending on where you live, you can likely even do it from the comfort of your home! I’m personally exhausted by the direness of our time, but not voting ain’t gonna help that 🤷♂️
I think a lot of people on the left want Trump to win because they think their lives will be more dramatic and they will be the grand protagonists in the fight against fascism
"We have to win every national election from now on" is not a viable or sustainable strategy.
And the only thing Dem messaging seems to be able to nail is that they aren't running Trump.
I’m worried because I don’t see how it becomes sustainable long term- I agree with you, but there’s no space for a loss- a slip up, think it means the party would have to drop more resources into state level but a lot of states have virtually become one-party dominions. Don’t have an alternative tho
It fucking sucks that this is how the deck is stacked at this point but I don’t see a different way forward. Even if you prosecute the people who tried to do it, which is happening, they’re just going to keep trying. We’ve got a part to play in all of this, and the alternate to doing it is very bad.
Watched a documentary on women’s suffrage movement recently & women in US fought for 3 generations before getting the vote. And don’t even think about how long it took to get rights for minorities… Democracy is NOT one-and-done. Anywhere or at any time.
I would like it to be otherwise but “I’m tired of hearing that” doesn’t make it not true and they are counting on people being sick of it so they’ll stop fighting back
While I would also be glad that our elections weren't coin flips between fascism and democracy, its also like...our elections should be important. We should always go into an election thinking it is a big deal. The opposite is not having a choice in how our lives are lived.
