I missed this xkcd when it came out earlier, but it made me laugh out loud. The joke, which is aimed at a very small group of people, is that the graph is shaped like the light curve (the change in brightness over time) of a classic supernova. Brightens fast, peaks, fades slowly.

So I want to talk about this from the perspective of someone who does professional fact checking as part of my work. For some years now I have been paid to check TV and written content themed around animals to make sure it is factually accurate. Chat GPT & AI has made that job so much harder.

This to me is the last victory we can maybe get before the election. Have the J6 pre trial and lay everything out for public record examining each piece of evidence to determine what was presidential and what was personal acts.

Them: "Do you want to play in this limited sessions new TTRPG I have?" Me: "Sure. Sounds fun." Them: "Do you want to run it so I can play with my friends?" Me: "Absolutely not." There is a huge time commitment difference in playing vs running TTRPGs. I wish I had any time at all to run anything.

What this article leaves out is that if you hand your unlocked phone to a police officer, they can legally search it. Unless companies develop a method that allows you to show officers insurance cards and driver license without unlocking the rest of your phone, don't.

I think at this point we see that Harris would be a solid candidate and can take the fight to the GOP, who are already softening their stances on abortion and others to try and keep momentum. All thats required is that Biden step down succeeding the presidency to her and thus the nomination.

Im totally cool with reasonable questions on his fitness to complete the job. What I hate is this being discussed in ways that divides the party, cause democrats to consider not voting, and in fighting that shows the weakness of the party as a whole. This reassuring us headlines also haven't helped.

Despite being in the endemic phase, it is still a thing and still something to watch carefully. Sure, we are significantly better at dealing with severe cases, and that alone is not necessarily a reason to pretend it does not exist. Yes, getting vaccinated still helps. Test when your sick.

Either the Democrats will run Biden, or he'll say he can't continue the campaign and Democrats will run Harris. Either is newsworthy, but neither is nearly as radical as running a pro-insurrection convicted felon with legal immunity he's eager to use.

While DOJ independence was already a dead letter for purposes of a second Trump term since Attorney General E. Trump or J. Turley or whoever will have been chosen expressly because he's willing to take orders, also worth noting that Roberts blessed POTUS telling AG whom to prosecute.

I genuinely try to not be defeatist or overly pessimistic like many democrats seem to be. I'll happily celebrate smaller victories and push for more. The alternative to Biden is still the loss of democracy. So i'll take this and keep holding dem leadership to task where I can.

With republicans losing out in states where they fight to limit it, I'm surprised he isn't. I guess the strategy is don't interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake. Though I cant say agree in this case since this is a major issue that needs addressed.

Reelection is not part of the official acts of a president. Same with private business deals with foreign powers. State level prosecution also is not protected. This is a victory for Trump though in that this further delays everything giving him a chance to win reelection. That cannot happen.

In many of my chats with friends I've sort of said this SCOTUS ruling would fall like this. Next up lower courts will sort through what are constitutionally defined presidential acts. Trump will (unless elected) have to still stand trial for his j6 acts.

They delay this will cause is the worst part. There's an up hill climb to even remotely get his J6 case started before the election. He absolutely cannot be allowed to win this election. If he does, he'll have all cases tossed and can easily seek to have legislators arrested.
