Juneteenth is a federal holiday.
But in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas; Republicans have passed laws to prevent teachers from teaching kids why.
I grew up in Texas and never learned about Juneteenth, except that was when watermelons were ripe (I swear!), so nothing new there.
You’d think they’d want to improve education as it progresses, but you’d be wrong.
Schools and banks are closed on a national holiday so kids can probably figure out why, if they have cell phones and a TV and maybe by the time they’re old enough to vote they’ll live in modern, healthy, prosperous free states.
