I for one am pretty fixated on not having to spend even more years of my life wondering if Donald fucking Trump is going to deploy nuclear weapons

I guarantee a woman as smart, rhetorically skilled, and fearless as Harris can beat him. Will she? I think so. Will she get the chance? Maybe. I think it's going to look like this, rhetorically:

If I were prepping her, I'd just say that: "He lies about everything, all the time. In fact, he's a felon now, because he lies. Here are some of the other things he's been convicted of ..."

Yes, but I really want to witness the 'debate' between Harris and Trump. That will be so incredibly cathartic for me.
Facing a skilled prosecutor on a debate stage? She'll gut him.

"Executive Time" fell out of the coverage of Donald Trump in the most incredible way. Nobody writing about his quest to become president again ever mentions the fact that he hated the job when he had it and he couldn't and wouldn't really do it!

It's such a dumb rhetorical position. eg: "Trump claims, without evidence, that his middle name is J, not John. Experts differ on whether this is true. His birth certificate says 'John,' but TrumpMama says on Xitter that he didn't just make it up and that everyone knows his middle name is just J."

I feel the Skepticism you hear from some when they seem utterly baffled that people would actually believe a second Trump term would bring authoritarian and anti democratic backsliding is rooted in, among other things, 1) not realizing that if something like that occurs, it’s not gonna have…

In fact, if you take Trump's word for it, he's clearly the weakest executive this country has ever had, with now-countless examples of "stupid" and "terrible" people doing things on his authority that he had "no idea" were happening and "completely disagreed" with.

I am immediately reminded of the piece Masha Gessen wrote about the aesthetics of authoritarians, which feels like the other side of this coin.

if the media could go ahead and treat this claim the way they treat Biden saying "I'm fine" - aka, as a lie that requires days on end of front page stories to debunk - that would be great

The view that Trump is bad but Biden is worse is not liberalism, progressivism, leftism, or socialism. It's insanity or corruption, probably both.

Everyone is angry about the world and scared about the future and defensive on account of being pretty sure (correctly or not) that someone else is blaming them for something terrible and I don’t know if any of that will help but it’s probably useful to acknowledge what’s happening and breathe a bit

The best thing about British democracy is when the actual head of government has to stand in a leisure centre at 5 am beside a guy with a bin on his head to find out if he still has a job.

Watching the British election returns I feel compelled to point out that the 650 person House of Commons represents 67 million people and the 435 person House of Representatives in the United States represents 333 million.
Replace the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929. We deserve representation.

If Trump wins then America is in for some very dark times, and that will last for generations. But if and when he loses, whether to Biden or to Harris, the country absolutely can dig its way out of this hole, and folks need to remember the future beyond that is, in all likelihood, pretty great
