This report is another piece from our collaboration with the Centre for Climate Justice at UBC on biodiversity policy- we care about biodiversity because there's no point in staying below 1.5 degrees warming on a dead planet & many of the worst ideas for climate are showing up in biodiversity too.

Very cool to see this new series on US home insurance in @bloomberg.com Green. At @cplusc.bsky.social we're looking into how the insurance crisis intersects with housing safety and affordability; I hope future articles look at the plight of renters, mobile homes & affordable housing developers.

new from me and @cplusc.bsky.social. The Farm Bill creates deep problems for labor, the environment, and rural communities. But for over 100 years, workers have been organizing to build a better way of farming. www.climateandcommunity.org/forests/farm...

Love to see some @cplusc.bsky.social representation here
But truly, when you know the answer (we need to phase out fossil fuels), it’s easier to just do that than try to come up with some way to convince fossil fuels it was their idea to get banned

A very nice, quick summary of our work on the carbon and other environmental costs of the invasion of Gaza from Al Jazeera today. The short term carbon costs of this war aren't the most important reason to demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire, but they are one more reason.

New from our shop- a fabulous report that goes into the nuts-and-bolts for ways tenant advocates and environmental justice organizers can engage with the (insufficient, but still meaningful) housing provision in the Inflation Reduction Act and some great analysis of where housing fits into the IRA.

This is for tenant organizers! While IRA is advertised and sometimes silo'd as climate policy, some is housing policy underneath and this matters in a country with deep housing insecurity.
To understand where the bridges are for climate + tenant organizers check this out.

Digging into these programs highlight the need for a broader tenants rights agenda in the face of increasing climate threats, and underscores the importance of tenant organizing as a direct path to winning building condition improvements outside the policy or legislative realm!

Over the next year, states will be setting up programs to implement these programs. This gives organizers and advocates a key window of opportunity to improve outcomes for renters by advancing tenant protections, conditions on funds, and ensuring funds get to low-income renters.

IRA funds fall woefully short of the investments needed to make rental housing habitable and resilient. Landlords may not use rebates to improve conditions for renters, and even if they do, this could be used as an excuse to hike rents, flip properties, and displace tenants.
