As we wrote in the @cplusc.bsky.social
call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, there is climate justice everywhere, or nowhere. We shirk internationalism and a clear-eyed analysis of the violent political economy in which the climate crisis is unfolding at our collective peril.

It seems to me that there are important connections being made between the peace movement, the climate movement, and the global economic justice movement- these connections will be vital for building movements and analysis that center internationalism and solidarity that can win

3rd is violence deployed against responses to climate crisis- both social movements resisting fossil fuel development, and the militarization of borders against people seeking safety- often from conflict and, increasingly, the impacts of climate change.

2nd, there is increasing state violence to secure minerals for the green transition. This is clear in the hysterical (+ often racist) New Cold War trade policy, and the ways militaries are capturing resources that are desperately needed for civilian energy transitions

1st, there is the ongoing violent geopolitics to secure fossil fuels and the climate impacts of militaries themselves; militaries are responsible for abt 5.5% of global carbon emissions and military force by the US in particular is still the guarantor of the global fossil economy

We don't get to climate justice without an internationalism that takes war and militarism seriously. This essay looks at three categories of state violence (or violence by reactionaries in service of states) and how they intersect with climate.

The genocide in Gaza has pushed the climate movement to think about how war and the climate crisis are linked- my newest invites them to take the next step to an internationalism that takes war & militarism everywhere as a threat to climate justice 🧵

RIP the Gaza aid pier. It didn't last long, it didn't accomplish anything, and it was always just a PR stunt to pull attention away from the government's support of a genocide, but at least it cost more money than the federal government spends on addiction treatment programs

I spent like 2 hours last night trying to figure out if there was any meaningful difference between Trone and Alsobrooks and A. decided there wasn't; B. was extremely frustrated that it took so long and visits to so many different websites to actually find meaningful policy statements

This was a great event, and I was really inspired by Rep. Ramirez and my fellow panelists Ashik Siddique and Hebah Kassem. The ongoing genocide in Gaza is horrifying and heartbreaking, but I see a glimmer of hope as the climate, peace, and economic justice movements start to come together.

I've seen enough: the best hardcore punk record of the year came out today. Creative, nuanced, and technically masterful but still punk-as-fuck. Half new songs, half a vinyl repress of the demo tracks from last year that I absolutely never get sick of hearing. A real triumph.

Here's what everyone needs to know* about climate change:
🌍 It's real
👥 It's human-caused
⚠️ It's serious
💡 With immediate action, it's solvable
⌛ Later is too late
* social science shows these msgs increase acceptance of the issue, awareness of the risk and, most importantly, willingness to act.
