In my global inequality class I show this video on Argentine citizens holding ex-dictators accountable for crimes. "Escraches" were a big tactic, involving protests at their homes, embarrassing them in front of their neighbors, & not letting them live normal lives.

Keeping Trump out of the White House isn’t the only thing that needs doing and it isn’t enough to solve all problems facing the country & world but if it isn’t done then all those problems get exponentially worse in ways I don’t even know how to express and it scares me when people pretend otherwise

I'm thrilled to share my new LPE blog on insurance, where on take on the prevailing media & policy narrative that the answer to the US's home insurance crisis is protecting insurance companies. Instead, we must focus on ensuring housing safety & affordability.

So many awful things out of the Court today. But criminalizing people who have nowhere else to live--in this country of extreme income inequality and a raging housing crisis--is the most nakedly cruel.

The normalization of death threats as standard right wing political behavior has already hollowed out local election workers, now it’s risking educators and our public health corps. Remind me again why journalists still don’t treat this as an acute, national emergency?

Jamaal Bowman's loss is very bad for many reasons one that I think gets lost is that he's one of very, very few elected officials that is not independently wealthy, actually worked in schools, and the legislation he supported reflected that.

A clear example, from story on wildfire mitigation & insurance premiums, of how home insurance companies' primary concern is about shifting as much financial risk away from themselves as possible.

Where does the risk go when companies shift it? Onto policyholders.

Good to know. But should it be. As I dig more into the home insurance crisis I'm learning how deeply insurance underpins most financial transactions... so shouldn't the CPUC pay attention to project has insurance, whether it's to cover accidents or even just general operations?

Woah. @aaroncantu.bsky.social, did insurance come up in your reporting on this? Would explosions or other harms be covered by insurance? I would bet homeowner policies wouldn't cover it so does SoCalGas have insurance to cover possible damage to people's homes (not to mention people themselves!)?
