RIP Brian STABLEFORD sf-encyclopedia.com/entry/stable... Including translations, he produced nearly 600 books, and also authored and co-authored many entries for the SFE - he was a contributing editor to the 1979 and 1993 editions.

this is why i prefer place names like ravenbluff or deepford in fantasy instead of xobergroth or plintfau also expect most of your rivers to just be called "river" by the locals, and mountains to be "big mountain" and "little mountain"

Priest wrote stories that made my brain wonder. As a kid I read The Inverted World, about life in a moving city on an impossible world, and it really dazzled me. The Prestige is another one that you may know, with a similarly wild premise. RIP
