I don’t know Eirik well at all, but he had a story in the last print issue of Kaleidotrope (“Too Close to the Sun”) and has always seemed like a good guy. Please help out, if you’re at all able, in this incredibly difficult time for him and his family.

I see Kaleidotrope writers posting about their new stories and poems on ex-Twitter, and I want to amplify that, know every little bit of promotion for their fantastic work helps. But I’m sorry, I’m just done with that place.

This doesn't happen a lot, and no real worries, but it's always a little weird when people have clearly heard that Kaleidotrope is open to submissions but haven't heard to submissions of *what*.

I can just hope, as a quarterly, each issue of Kaleidotrope has a slightly longer tail, and a review or two a month or more in won’t hurt it, but instead remind readers if they missed it on launch.

For there to be reviews of an issue when it goes live, that would likely require me to prep it at the same time I’m launching the issue before it, which is the same time I’m re-opened to submissions. As just one guy who also has a day job, I just don’t think I can do that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Imagining a world in which review copies of Kaleidotrope are sent out in advance of a new issue requires me to imagine a world in which a new issue isn't completed only days, sometimes even only hours, before the day it's supposed to go live, and I'm not sure if I can successfully do that. 🤔

There's been a more manageable number of submissions today, day two, but it's still be incredibly humbling (if slightly overwhelming) to see just how many people allowed me to consider their work.

I’m going to do my very best to respond to submissions as quickly as possible this reading period. At the same time, I received well over one hundred on the first day alone, so I hope everyone will be just a little patient.
