Yeah, it's pretty much the exact opposite of a response that would help convince anyone to consider becoming vegan. "Not only do I have to give up food I enjoy and figure all that out, but I have to deal with assholes like that!"

Being a vegan or not isn't a protected class, so I guess that person could just post "non-vegans not allowed to eat here" sign at their restaurant if this is their attitude.

If I work until I'm 67 (when I'd get full Social Security benefits), I've got another 16 or so years left of full-time work. The biggest thing the previous roughly 35 years have shown me is that I have no idea what the upcoming 16 years will hold.

and at a multi-billion-dollar global corporation. Some of the jobs were great. Two were awful, ethical nightmares for me. One was great until it was epically not great. I've got former bosses and colleagues I'd love to work with again and others I'd run into traffic to avoid. (not really. maybe.)

Of those 22 jobs, only six were taken with the idea that they could last as long as they were mutually beneficial. The others were all designed to be short-term. I've worked retail, done temp work in warehouses and factories, taught at elite institutions and community colleges, worked at a startup

Ruminating on this, I thought about all the jobs I've had, going back to my 16th birthday. I've had 22 different jobs with 19 different employers over 35 years. At my current job, I've worked with 12 different clients. I've gotten to see bits and pieces of how a lot of places work.

As of today, I've been at my current job for 5 years. That was after a period of a lot of turbulence where I had four full-time jobs in three years. Before that, I'd had the same job for 12 years, and the changing jobs was getting to me. I really needed the stability, and I'm glad I found it.

I will bang this drum forever: in THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE FREE: THE GERMANS, 1933-45 Milton Mayer interviewed 10 ordinary Germans after WW2 to learn how fascism took hold. There was never a moment when everyone woke up:

Listening to seven year olds do karaoke and butchering Taylor Swift songs was a panacea of musical perfection compared with the preteen boys doing their version of jingoistic masturbation known as “Proud to Be An American.”
