I think part of our work as horror writers in 2024 is to help people unlock the parts of themselves that can face terror and adversity without losing their humanity & goodness.
We are entering an era of fear and horror like our species has never faced. We need heart.

It's the one year print-a-versery of "A Dress of Flowers" which is available via ZNB Presents patreon OR via ZNB for a paperback or ebook download.
'A Dress of Flowers' is a queer re-imagining of bits of Cinderella and I adore this story and hope it will find some new readers!

I'm always suggesting stories from here, so go submit (but watch the guidelines)! It's a special window for longer stories!

Blog post is written and scheduled! In the morning I'll published the link so if you missed any of the twenty stories I recommended in June, you'll be able to easily see what I liked!
Note: I read all over publication time. Everything last month was 2024, but sometimes it's older stuff, too.

One thing about not posting much on social media is that when I go to do my short story round-up, I don't have to scroll through as many posts.
This thought brought to you by someone who is scrolling more to do tomorrow's round-up post because they were more active this month here.

#LateNightWrite A3. There might be a proclivity of my characters in dino story to share more than they should and that may hurt them in the end.

#LateNightWrite A2. The main economic disparity in my dino story (as I call it) is what level of safety any set of individuals may have. And those who have electricity, and therefore electricity can bring, and those who do not.
I try to approach economies from different angles in different stories.

#LateNightWrite A1. Yes and no. Lately, many of the communities I write specifically discourage greed, selfishness, and economic disparity.
Sometimes I address it more directly.

Also, for once I started #LateNightWrite with the intro and not question 1! I'm thrilled for myself.

Hello #LateNightWrite!
I'm Adria, writer of SFF/H in short and long form! My current WiP is an adult SF in a dystopian near-future where dinosaurs roam the Earth, and also we do polycule love stories.
Best place ever is tough! Possilby Skellig Michael was the coolest.

I have made some writer friends that stuck from in-person writing conferences, like Surrey International Writers Conference.
Are you able to attend in-person conferences?

I haven't had an in-person writing group since the early 2000s, for reasons.
I have been lucky in the past few years finding CPs and writer friends online. We tried to get a writing retreat together, but it fell apart.

I'm sorry.
I was rejected last year and also found it unexpectedly crushing.
I hope you're able to find your community soon! Are you looking for mostly in-person?

Have you listened to my story, "Submerged," published one year ago at Manawaker Flash Fiction podcast?
DB Droege did a great job narrating this 250ish-word story.
Go have a listen! (And subscribe to the podcast if you want to hear very short stories!

A conversation on our Discord has prompted me to say again: remember, y'all, what really sells books is not the author talking about their work, but *readers* talking about it. Word of mouth drives far more sales than advertising or any other engine. So if you loved a book, tell your friends!

LateNightWrite A3.
In the flash, there's a daughter who is most apathetic about the things happening with time.
In the novel - hmm, I don't think anyone of the main cast is. There are those in the background who are.
