Just found this ancient parchment in my flat files. I was a big fan of Mojo Nixon & Skid Roper back in the day, and now I wish I'd sent this to 'em.

I suspect Ang Lee’s Hulk is another inflection point - an outer limit on what the audience will/won’t accept from the rebooted and how quickly a replacement reboot can shove it out of the way like the Vanishing Kommissar

I was 12 — Superman ‘78 felt like an older style of movie. My dad liked it a lot more than I did.

I suspect Who Framed Roger Rabbit the year before is another point - IP scavenging, “this cartoon isn’t just for kids” phrasing everywhere, a plot that’s relatively secondary to amount of IP easter eggs per frame, and being crazy successful at it. Surprised at how much the film is forgotten now.

Mojo Nixon transcends on stage with the Pleasure Barons. An incredible “Elvis Is Everywhere” filled with 1989 San Diego references (Roberto’s, Horton Plaza)

Full disclosure: I discovered a lot of cool comics in the back pages of the CtA bi-weeklies and one of my fave comics ever (Puma Blues) was published by A-V. I have a complicated way to say “fuck that guy”

I’m also projecting a bit. I drove through Kitchener once (end of winter ‘93) uncomfortable intensity like the Inland Empire of LA. All kinds of weird ideas grow out there
