I don't even write a check for taxes anymore. The IRS has an e-check option. I have run into some younger people who have never written a check, and don't know how to fill out a paper check.

I remember 10 years ago when FWA moved to the Marriott, it felt so spread out and empty. They had the lowest levels, and the Atrium level was hosting other conventions, like propane and Delta Airlines.

I've seen some vendors/artists that are basically "I'm not a furry, but the money is good". There was a big influx of them after the My Little Pony fandom collapsed. I prefer not to spend money on that kind of vendor. Some artists did make a transition to really understanding the fandom.

DragonCon processes tens of thousands of attendee registrations, and they do not mail badges. The reg line was a 4 hour nightmare at one time, but they figured it out, and now it's consistently about an hour or less.

Other cons have had the policy where if they couldn't process all the regs quickly enough, they would open events without needing a badge. A wise con chair once said, that reg is a critical part of the con experience. It is the first thing attendees have to do. It sets the mood to kick off the con.

Had a vivid dream about being at a furcon, and not knowing anyone. Wandered around aimlessly and ran into an old coworker. My first reaction was "oh wow, you're here too", but then he looked at my con badge and had a shocked "you're one of them" reaction. He was at the hotel for a business con.

Home is definitely the way to go, if you have a home where you can install one. You can also charge at electric off-peak hours. Other properties need to install them also, but currently it seems to be a few token charging stations that people have to share.

There has always been this tension between "if we build charging stations, they will come" vs "we will build charging stations, when there's a market for it". It would take a big and expensive move to really replace the current gas-stations-are-everywhere model.
