The latest drone footage from Tesla's Texas "Gigafactory" has all the old familiar hits: multiple uncontrolled fluid leaks (possibly environmental violations), piles of parts staged outdoors in the elements, and an End Of Line "hospital" for especially janky Cybertrucks

Has everybody already forgotten about the ridiculous fiasco of the multimillion dollar bike lockers that took.. how many years?! I don’t trust a damn thing they say when they clearly haven’t fixed any of their third-party contractor problems.

I was out and about masked as well today! I’ve got to get me some more of those aura masks. Is there a source that you particularly like or do you get them directly through 3M? I don’t trust the darn thing on Amazon. They are particularly good for singing!

last thought- there’s stuff that just sprays onto the coils that helps – obviously it’s better to get in there and scrub them and stuff, but the leave on stuff is non-corrosive. just rinse. If you can get close enough to spray your coils with a sprayer, might be worth it. (I have a ton extra!)

2/ if you don't know anything about this, you could pay to have them cleaned and have them show you. It's the best thing you can do for reducing load on your unit. When the units run too long and too hard they often blow a big capacitor at the compressor. Fixable but requires extra knowledge.

Hmmm. You should have access to the coils to clean them (both the ones that get cold that the air going into your unit passes through, and the ones that dump the heat into the outside - evaporator and condenser coils). People often get HVAC service clean them but you can do it yourself.

It's killing me that the one time I got to visit London and have time to go - it was the one day it's closed during the week. I forget, something like Wednesday or something like that - such a bummer!

Do you rent or own? If you own, I have some pointers for you about what you can do for your own system – I fixed my old one a couple times and my new one broke two weeks ago, but I figured out what was wrong with it - this weather is a heavy burden for AC units!

A sneaky source for this stuff that I admit to using because I can’t find an alternative is parchment paper that is coated. It’s all freaking coated! Grr

Just don’t use nonstick cookware or a plastic coffeemaker. That’s the best you can do and will get you a long way to where you need to be. I got an air fryer over a year ago and still haven’t used it because I am loathe to use plastics and heat and food together.

They just just ran a horrible opinion piece about someone choosing to never vote without comments enabled, and it made me so mad I couldn’t bear it. Cancelling next week. I don’t think they are anti trans, but my god, they are the bastion of entitled rich whiners. Guess it’s just the AP for me!

3/ pay for low income rooftop solar, when WAY MORE people would be helped by just putting in large PV installs and directly subsidizing their bills! EPA doesn’t have the staff to understand this issue. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk, and I shall relinquish my thread takeover :)

2/ it’s not about just throwing some away at all. It’s that the grid, when destabilized, can have to dump *more* than the pv is generating!! Whereas large PV installations are more predictable and can use smarter control equipment, etc. It’s a pet peeve of mine - billions right now via the epa to..

Haha thanks! Oh do the grid thing is a big deal. ‘Balancing the grid’ is a huge optimization problem that includes the phase of the current, not just amount, transmission vs distribution, etc etc. Equipment is old, tools are archaic. Having many tiny distributed ‘generators’ from rooftop EV is bad!

Of course! Point being many don't *need* range or fast charging, and a used 8k plug in EV car is pretty sweet. And prob has the best LCA for carbon of any car at all.

Sorry for the minirant, but most people don't know this and just think it's electrons in electrons out. But it isn't at all. (California really screwed this one up actually!) EV adoption should not rely on PV adoption. But I'd love to see more truly off grid deployments. That avoids the grid probs.

So I think we're going to see a slower adoption in this as large pv deployments including storage start to increase. That's the right way to do it! I think that rooftop solar is paying more value to the homeowner than it should, and if you get around 30% adoption energy is wasted to grid balance!

I'm actually going to disagree with this here. Turns out that having distributed rooftop solar is really bad for the grid - that's the main reason why so many utilities are pushing back against it. It's waaay more complicated than a off grid battery storage system that people imagine.

Ugh, I am so sorry. The issue of peoples’ families being split by this goddamn nightmare is a very real and painful one. I really don’t understand it – I was listening to the Bill Burr podcast and he painted Biden as some super left-wing progressive. People are idiots. And I love Bill.

Not you, but foolish to say nobody. There’s an awful lot of southern and western Virginia where hunting is a big deal – and turkeys are idiots. I could see hitting a turkey with a car by mistake. Or practically as a sport.
