A few years ago, Jon Lovett floated a theory that media treats Democrats like protagonists - to be challenged, accounted, and forced to be behave in growth-oriented ways - while the GOP are treated like antagonists - immutable, expected to disrupt, thematic obstacles. Thinking about that a lot.

To me, it feels like betrayal from progressives. I am a centrist, a disillusioned ex Republican who decided to support whomever won Democrat primaries despite my policy differences with them. Even progressives! I thought we had a coalition. But as soon as it gets tough, they abandon the fight.

Once again, I think there should be like 75 or more Justices, and they just pick a random panel of 9 for every case, with the possibility of a larger "en banc" panel when things go awry. SCOTUS could grant more cert petitions that way too.

I made a diagram trying to show how the Trump crimes roll up. The red statute is what he got convicted 34 times for. All the blue stuff is stuff he had to intend but didn't have to actually do The jury had to be unanimous that at least one of the three unlawful means were present, but not which one.
