I think the problem I'm having with this is that the longer you wait, the worse the change is. But by changing lanes we could be hurting our chances. It's an impossible choice and I don't think there's any expert advice because this has never happened before in a race this consequential.

You just need to be persistent. Most of these people haven't been reasoned into these positions, so reasoning them out can take some effort. Others are just parroting stupid shit from the last hate radio episode and you can teach a dumb bird to parrot something else.

The vast majority of times I've talked to people like this, even a modicum of evidence tends to be fairly persuasive. Mostly because the other side isn't using evidence to persuade Find sources that are hard to refute like local papers and news when it comes to things like "Mpls is burning"

*and as Shiv mentioned, so does wealth. If you can make it past childhood, your life expectancy is much higher. Which is why life expectancies were so much lower in the past. Much of the difference was because the significantly higher infant mortality. Wealth plays a huge role in infant mortality

So the graph is somewhat hard to read but if you look at the shrinking gaps between each age line, that's showing the increase in likelihood you will live longer. Infant and childhood mortality drives a lot of this*. And not just in people either. You see this with machine parts as well.

True. Up to a certain point. But after that genetics plays a somewhat larger role. Wealth alone isn't going to get you to 100.
