I know that opening my current draft and then playing Spelling Bee for 15 minutes doesn't actually get words onto the page, and yet somehow hope springs eternal.

I see the appeal of being an "art monster", but if I gave over my whole life to writing I wouldn't have anything interesting to say. It's because I have a family and obligations and time pressures that I'm able to say anything of value. My writing is precious because it's hard won in little bursts.

When I lived in Oakland there were *six* Ethiopian restaurants within a few blocks of my house. My mouth is watering now thinking of those spicy red lentils.

I heard a great line at writers group tonight - "when I take out the trash it sounds like I'm throwing away a chandelier"

Congratulations Celtics. I take 100% credit for the w:
- 2003 Syracuse wins basketball championship while I'm a student
- ditto Kansas in 2008
- 2009-2021 while living in SF Bay Area Giants & Warriors win multiple championships
- 2024 Celtics win
I'm the good luck charm. You're welcome Boston.

Happy father's day to all the dads and dad-adjascent folks out there, but especially to my dad who apparently really needed a haircut sometime in 1985.

Also omg Demi Moore was so kind and so wise. I felt like she'd gone through a lot of therapy and had come out a really grounded and lovely person as a result.

I watched Andrew McCarthy's Brat Pack documentary and it seemed like he was the only one who was still hung up on it. Like he blamed that label for anything bad that happened in his career but others didn't. The film felt like a big therapy session for him to be able to move past it.

I remember having an answering machine at the beginning of college but I feel like somewhere between 2000-2004 land lines started coming standard with voice mail - am I rememberling that correctly?

Because this seems to be doing the rounds again elsewhere. Perhaps the only piece of mine to have gone mildly viral, shunted uncredited like an orphan from workhouse to workhouse across the Internet over the years. 🤓

I love WWI history and it's mostly due to Dan Carlin's podcast series Countdown to Armageddon. Have you listened to it?

This would be the first time a team has blown a 3-0 lead in the NBA finals right? This is traumatizing to watch.

It's like I'm watching an entirely different Celtics team than the one from the other night.
