patreon continually getting worse frustrates me greatly because it's literally a money printing middle-man service where all you've gotta do is keep the lights on and comply with banking laws, but instead they hoover up venture capital just to flail endlessly and make things worse for their users.

Increasingly baffled at people asserting that you can/will be heard as an artist if you do x, y, and z marketing faffery. It's not as bad face to face as it is on the internet, but still rough. There were never any guarantees, but it's less likely now that you'll be afforded coverage by anyone.

There's also the broad 'independents over x age struggle more' factor, but mates, lots of us can't even get Our Personal Friends to cover us. There's even stress on the 'I know x from y, I'll chat to them' factor TLDR: Don't trust anyone who confidently tells you how to market properly in the 2020s

Oh! That’s good to know! I’ve had a drawing book with thicker paper and I’ve done nothing beyond ballpoint pen sketches and pencil drawings so this’ll be useful to put some heavy materials on it.

honestly hate that every time there's an industry bad actor, lists of "works by marginalized authors to support instead" start circulating like it's a moral obligation to be done out of guilt, & it's crickets every other day of the year. my art is not to be taken in as a reactionary measure
