Everyone favorite type of neighborhood is the old style suburb with SFHs that are close together, big trees and sidewalks, and a small commercial strip/downtown a few blocks away (low density/high walkability). But now we build 5-over-1s on 6 lane stroads instead (high density/low walkability).

My argument applies to cold as well (though it's harder to run transit in severe winter storms than heat waves). Point is having frequent climate-controlled buses everywhere is an easy way for govs to reduce temperature-related public health impacts while poor service does the opposite.

Fast, frequent transit service obviously reduces CO2 emissions from cars, but it's also a form of adaptation to climate change. Long waits for transit without shade increase exposure to extreme heat. Yet most transit agencies just want a 1:1 replacement w ZE buses without any service changes.

In my experience union organizers are very very queer. LGBT workers (especially trans) experience workplace discrimination with few protections and often have more financial insecurity than their straight coworkers.

It's a VC-backed sprawl development in rural Solano county that needs a ballot measure to get built. Backers are touting it as urbanist but it has no intercity rail connection and their plans call for 6 lane arterials w just buses. CA YIMBY recently endorsed the ballot measure.
