It's important to understand that you CANNOT lump all religions together into one big whole, which is where many militant Capital A Atheists get in trouble. They tend to see all religion as Christianity. And it's NOT. So much Atheism is just informed by Christianity and it results in bigotry.

yah when they complain about "Abrahamic religions," they've usually never looked into anything other than their former strain of Christianity

I was a New Atheist for, like, 5 months. They had way too much emphasis on being a smug asshole for my taste lol I do think "religion" is a useful category to describe that set of spiritual beliefs, but you're right; New Atheists use "religion" when they mean "Christianity" without differentiating

This absolutely true. If you ask an atheist why they don't believe in God and they immediately start debunking the Bible, they have never considered anything else.

also i’m sorry but it’s also just such fucking lazy racism. like, not only do we already have more accurate terms to describe our own homegrown criminals but they literally do not operate in the same ways, functionally!

I really do agree, what these militant Capital A Atheists don't understand is without an authentic, lived understanding of *why* they should also not believe in non-Christian religions, they're just as irrational as those they criticize. Really, they're as bad as the subjects of their criticism.
