Rwanda also got a bunch of money up front, apparently. It sounded super expensive all around.

It's quite relevant if it's the only source for it happening at all. As in we don't yet have independent confirmation that the person *exists*. I am not saying it didn't happen or wouldn't be bad if it did, only that I do not trust that source. The thread as a whole is nuanced.

"Amidst all the tearing of garments and vultures circling, the fact is that we’re still pretty much where we were pre-debate. There are two questions: Is Biden fit to serve? And, would Democrats benefit by forcing him off the ticket? The answers remain 'he is' and 'probably not.'"

If politics get any more interesting I am never coming out from under the bed. I want things LESS interesting. Normal. Boring. FUNCTIONAL.

That was Hugo Dyson (who eventually refused to let Tolkien read any more LOTR at Inklings meetings where he, that is Dyson, was present)

I don't think that's new at all. I have seen it treated as a dialect word, "acrost"

It's pretty common for the transitive and intransitive senses of a word to have different past tenses. Cf. "shine" in "they shined shoes" or "the light shone"

The kp.org/wa site says Medicaid members do get reimbursed for self-tests, but that's apparently a Medicaid thing and not a Kaiser thing.

I just checked and unless it's very well hidden, they're not sending out any free tests in my area, nor reimbursing people for buying them.

Really happy for you. I know people who had to do the interferon treatment, and it worked for them, but boy howdy was it rough.

Something I've been thinking for a while, but haven't said. It's not up to Joe Biden alone to defeat Donald Trump. The responsibility is on all of us. That includes getting the message out. You are more credible to Uncle Jack who thinks that Trump is THE MAN to push Putin out of Ukraine. 1/

Running down what has been accomplished is a great way to keep further progress from happening. What the hell is wrong with "Yay! More of this, please!"?

Acting as if our huge gains in climate action under the Biden administration never even happened is part of the problem here. We can't reverse matters but we can mitigate them a hell of a lot.

I need to check whether Kaiser is doing that up here (Seattle). They definitely quit mailing tests for a while and I have not heard that they've started again.

Does it help to go under the covers? One of the extremely silly things I like about using a CPAP is that I can put the covers over my head and still breathe. Sleep snorkeling!

Incidentally, the recommended replacement schedule is completely bogus. When you know what works for you, get spares of things as you can, and only replace stuff when it breaks.

My experience is almost the opposite. I find the least degree of restriction in breathing through my nose makes it impossible to use the nasal mask and not that easy even with full-face.

I didn't say it was bad data, and I still think what I said was correct as far as it went. But I am very sorry to hear that the infant mortality rate did actually go up as well, and I appreciate your finding that information.

The number they're saying rose by 2% was the *number* of infant deaths, not the mortality rate. That could just be due to increased population (if more people have babies and the mortality rate is the same, the number of infant deaths will go up).

They are talking about the *number* of infants who died going up by 12.9% in Texas and an average of 1.9% elsewhere. So in the other states it could mostly just be due to population increase, not necessarily an increase in mortality *rate*, but in Texas it's obviously way beyond that.

I never encountered a shoes-off-inside house until I was grown up. We maintained it for a while when the kids were little. Now I have to wear shoes due to foot problems, so it's Birkenstocks inside and other shoes outside, and guests I tell "whatever is comfortable for you."
