They look like their ship was locked in ice over winter. One of them took a scarf from a shipmate who froze to death standing up and now refuses to ever take it off. The other now refuses to wear clothes of any kind.

TBH I'm even more cynical: I think they know this is absurd but assume you're a mark. Probably trying to match your phone number to your address or some such thing. Nobody with the $ for a national text campaign is this dumb.

It's not a good position. That caucus is not my cup of tea. But do step out of the circular firing squad. The value of the DSA is as an organization of organizers. It's an important thing because there are so few viable working class civic organizations.

63% of DSA endorsed candidates won election in 2023. That figure understates the progressive shift ongoing in the US. As always socialists are in the vanguard of that progress.

Right on. I'm sure it's a mixed bag. I have very little connection to the national organization. Our local does do pretty respectable electoral work. We passed a city wide initiative and won a council seat in 2023 and have two excellent candidates for state house this year.

I'm still don't understand why you're comparing DSA and SCLC to each other. Are you suggesting that the DSA should adopt principals of non-violence? Should they seek to shift their base to southern black churches? Or are you just suggesting they should not lose so God damn always?

The SCLC was the organization that MLK Jr led. It did not survive to the present as left wing movement. As left wing orgaizations become successful there is always temptation to lose the radicalism that marked them as special and give them the potential to be disruptive agents of progress.

I'm not making a comparison friend. You are. That said I agree with most of the thread. The contemporary left, could learn a lot from the non-violent movement about how activism affects the activist. About how acting with dignity, even towards our opponents, is how we live lives of dignity.
