We should never have chosen Schism as the song to keep the oarsmen in sync. They can't keep up with the time signature changes.

The Suicide Squad Isekai is a deeply weird cultural artifact. It's the culmination of several long chains of influence hoping the Pacific multiple times across decades. The show itself seems a bit mid, but you could write a fascinating book tracing back all the influences to their origin points.

I'm dying internally after asking a lesbian in an excited tone "Have you seen Hundreds of Beavers?" I was asking about the movie with that title, but they started laughing at me before I could explain.

I hate that it's AI doing this. It's can't preserve nuance. I don't necessarily hate making easier versions of books for people who aren't strong readers yet. I think a lot about Robinson Crusoe in Words of One Syllable, adapted in the 1860s for very young kids to learn to read.

I was single for about three years between my previous relationship and my current one. I leaned into my platonic relationships. There was a year when I went to a friend's house every single weekend to cook together.

You arrive in heaven. Before you stands The Lord, filthy and sweat soaked, wearing dingy tattered overalls. He gives you a once over while chewing contemplatively on a piece of straw. He drawls in an accent dripping with Savannah, β€œDoes a boy get to whitewash a fence everyday, my child?”

"He had discovered a great law of human action, without knowing it β€” namely, that in order to make a man or a boy covet a thing, it is only necessary to make the thing difficult to obtain." God as trixter trying to pass off his work onto his believers is a great concept

Yeah, they didn't do a great job with the politics of East Germany. I mostly liked the dancing. That's the one thing I thought the remake did very well. Although, I could always rewatch the first half of Climax instead and get many more dance sequences.

I'll have to add that one to my list. I was actually thinking about watching a Mario Bava movie tonight. On the Suspiria remake I'm totally with you. There are a lot of things I like about it, but it's a completely different experience from the original. I'd rather watch the original any day.

Totally aside from my theory about Perfect Blue, I highly recommend the original Suspiria if you haven't seen it.

I haven't seen that one, but it's directed by Bava so it might count. Giallo is characterized by a dreamlike tone juxtaposed with brutal murder, often committed by a black gloved figure. The films tend to be horror mysteries where discovering the identity of the killer is a big plot point.

Do you like Giallo films? After watching Perfect Blue I saw a lot of formal similarities with that genre of Italian horror. I think Satoshi Kon must have at least seen some old Argento films.

Thinking about when a friend of Swinburne took him in and gave him a comfortable life. Swinburne never wrote great poetry after that. His friend said "I saved the man but killed the poet." Swinburne is my favorite poet, but I'm glad. He deserved happiness more than we deserve his poetry.

Agreed, there can be no single category called intelligence. Even in a pluralistic model the act of hierarchizing people within it is pointless and often cruel.

Average song about a woman written by a man: a woman is like a particularly good kind of truck. Average song about a woman written by a woman: my relationship with her is a combination of worshipful and erotic like unto that of Hosea with Jehovah.

The continued violations bit is important. My favorite example was a speed camera placed on a four lane road at the bottom of a steep hill. Anyone who didn't ride their breaks continuously down the hill would get ticketed. You could stand on the sidewalk and watch it happen multiple times per hour.

What exactly do you think canceling a historical figure entails other than hating them and explaining why other people should too? Thomas Jefferson is dead, nothing we do can hurt him. He won't go hungry because we point out his blatant hypocrisy.

I think these modules and exercises are more to sooth the conscience of administrators. They believe they have the moral high ground and that these students should be made to recognize that. The hand which wields the sword crying about how it's being forced into the violence.
