“They want to eliminate national parks” is a very simple way to get just about anyone on the Stop Project 2025 train. Are there much more glaring and life-threatening goals of P25? Yes but even your most bigoted cousin does not want to see the parks system sold for parts.

We have those @airandspace in DC...except we offer $5, $10, $15 and $20 options. Have had cash donation boxes forever but donations were on a long-term downslope ('cause nobody caries cash anymore?) I haven't heard anything about how they've been received.

To me, Ken, she looks about 10. (Pretty brave re: the squirrel.) I was ten in '58, 75 now, so the numbers aren't too imposing. Is Filteau a common surname? If so the obit may not be dispositive. From that era, if she'd wed she'd likely have changed her surname. I hope she's had a happy life.

The Spirit is, of course, @airandspace 's Mall Building in DC but is currently off display. It will re-emerge next spring in a new location: the center of the Pioneers of Flight gallery (where the T-2 was). It's moving to get out of the sunlight in the Milestones gallery. Plan a visit for 2025!

To this day Virginia periodically asks Minnesota to return those captured colors. Invariably, Minnesota tells us (I am a Virginian) in polite language, that we can go to Hell. I hope they never change that response.

RIP Ed Stone, long-time leader of the Voyager mission. I learned so much from him during the Neptune encounter: both how to maximize science and how to share science with the world. He was also a genuinely nice person. Sincere condolences to Ed's family and close friends.

On every Memorial Day I raise a glass to the memory of my uncle, T5 Edmund J. Peters Jr. An 11th Airborne Div trooper, he was KIA during the assault on Fort McKinley, 17 Feb 1945. He rests at the Manila Cemetery so beautifully maintained by the Amer Battlefield Monuments Commission. He was 21.

A preliminary report on the Dali accident has been published.

Confirms two power outages, plus electrical problems earlier in the day. Reading between the lines that's the main area of investigation for the causes, though there'll be lessons leaned elsewhere for sure.
