It's a rare moment that a vendor actually did their due diligence prior to a meeting. They even read our 10k and was able to discern we make video games and not tv sets. Truly ground breaking.

I haven’t seen that but anything that makes more resumes somewhat readable would be an improvement. (resumes are mostly made up anyways - that’s what screening calls are for)

Totally agree. Part of my job is to look 3 years down the line and plan the necessary changes to achieve x. And what I plan and what is actually achieve will be very different. Welcome to tech.

One of my first "real" jobs was working for a military contractor to replace an ancient 1970s based documentation management system at an air force base with a new PC based one What happened to the old system? We also got the gig to move it to another air force facility and re-implement it

I'm literally using Google Docs right now and I can't right mouse click to paste a bit of text half the time without the entire page refreshing with an error. So ... no ... google docs is not where it's at and that's generally true of any web based only editors.

I was an a high school intern at 3M in the last 1980s. They hired a guy right out of college to do mainframe stuff including supporting COBOL apps. He's still there and still doing the same thing.

And software ISN'T upgraded successfully all the time. There've been hundreds of millions of dollars disasters trying to build the new thing to get off the old thing that was literally built in the 1960s.

some canon new Star Wars thing should address midichlorians by acknowledging them as a whole-cloth pseudoscience and gatekeeping device. qui-gon has the right kind of dadvibe to have honestly believed in it

Not sure what is worse - trying to teach your partner how to drive a car with a stick or teaching them how to use apple pay. But as we just missed a train because the ticket machine was wonkie we made it through it and I’m (somewhat) sure divorce is not being filed

Did GenZ pioneer that? Because this queer GenXer came out hard when the women of the dot.com I worked for took all the men of the office who had a birthday that week (there was a lot of us for some reason) to a dinner …. and then a strip club.

I determined that would never happen again.

And yet requiring ID doesn’t -nothing- to reduce fraud. You are adding extra steps that can and are being abused to prevent people from voting.

just watched 74 people speaking at least a dozen different languages become american citizens in a ceremony at monticello, where the speakers were themselves children of immigrants. inspiring stuff and a vivid illustration of what reactionaries want to snuff out
