introduction to IFS kind of did the same thing to me because i don't really feel like i experience the world as a plurality but also it seems PRETTY PRESUMPTUOUS to add "the self" to the model as the single unifying/moderating factor. the self feels more like a convenient shorthand than a real thing

i don't think this is true, i just think we (as leftists or liberals or whatever your community is) tend to have a more detailed understanding of the rifts in our own communities. the right often builds institutions that persist despite their grievances but i don't really read that as solidaristic

i like the analysis! i think a big part of the current rejection is that we just saw another antisocial technology collapse after widespread derision and informal boycott and we pattern match on that. i do personally think the subscription LLMs are unsalvageable, they're a form that can't exist...
