...when we (and I do not exclude myself from that) say things like "we need to show up!" or "voting isn't enough!" or "let's get in the streets!" I wonder how lifelong activists vs. everyday people *hear* those phrases. The zine is one small attempt to zoom in on all that and make it more concrete.

Evergreen pitch for this kind of workshop is that I encourage people who *aren't* poets to consider it. Songwriters, emcees, fiction writers, of course—but also comms people, activists and movement folks looking to expand their toolkit, etc. The stuff we'll be exploring relates to more than poetry:

Thanks for asking- I just checked with the organizers and yes, sessions are recorded and students are given access to each session. So an asynchronous participant would miss the in-class interactivity & workshopping, but would still get stuff like the prompts, examples, resources, etc. Your call!

I'm glad they shared this, because I think, especially here in the US, a big narrative to shift is boycotting as "individual consumer choice" vs. boycotting as "organized collective action," and this breaks that down.

...I actually reached out to Silverwood in Jan. of *last year* about doing this, so even though it'll be a fairly low-key event, it's been in the works for 16 months and... I hope people come. And the lineup really is special - people I don't just like as artists but respect as community members.
