In the many years of teaching kids a unit on either slavery or the Civil Rights, I never had a white kid feel bad because they identified with the racists. They all thought they'd be part of the Underground Railroad, they all thought they'd be best friends with Ruby Bridges.

Well, it turns out that my student loan payment skyrocketed because after I consolidated my loans to get my highest PSLF payment account applied to all of them, they're considered new loans and you have to re-apply for an income-driven repayment plan. Does anyone tell you this? They do not!

While I agree in general that we shouldn't give in to despair because there are avenues to fight back against the GOP's creeping fascism, I feel like the main reason many of my friends are feeling despair is because they already know the Dems aren't going to take those avenues
