There are a lot of problems that beset academia. This 👇 is one of the worst. How can we defend ourselves from the Rufos and DeSantises of the world when many of us can't even respect our colleagues enough to help equitably distribute labor?

Took another paper marbling workshop today - this time Japanese style (suminagashi). We used the paper to make small bound books, also stitched in a Japanese style.

This mentions DeSalvo's The Art of Slow Writing (which is 10 years old now and still very good) - Have long thought it is important to separate writing/making from the career track, although we are not great at supporting each other with that imho. themillions.com/2024/03/the-...

Well, 'tis the season of "survive and advance" I suppose. Happy for Haji and good to see Tyler and Gio get some positive minutes. Still way too many yikes along the way though. #USMNT

What is so depressing is how we seem so much less than a sum of our parts, which include some very talented young men playing well for their club sides. #USMNT

So... #USMNT v. Jamaica not off to the best start for the US, with a 1' goal for the Reggae Boyz. Attendance in Texas also seems quite poor for a competitive match (presumably crowd waiting to arrive for second semifinal of Mexico v. Panama).

Revisiting the life and work of Steve Paxton after his passing earlier this week. The Small Dance was formative for me in thinking not only about dance but also about writing and teaching as body: soundcloud.com/the-amam/aud...

Same attendance policy (I only keep track in case financial aid or athletics asks) - and agree oversharing has increased. Thinking at least part of it is a pandemic effect that has continued?

Quite the story of Côte d'Ivoire winning #AFCON. And unless supporting Nigeria, hard to imagine not being happy for Haller. Credit to Emerse Faé for stepping in to manage mid-tourney in, shall we say, unusual circumstances.

Wholesome day watching the US Olympic Marathon time trials today - route went right by my neighborhood and through downtown Orlando. Women’s winner Fiona O’Keefe (different runner pictured) won in her first ever marathon! Now headed to #Paris2024.

No surprise but confirmation today. The comments misrepresenting long standing academic traditions the most disappointing perhaps www.tampabay.com/news/educati... For what it’s worth hearing many institutions plan to keep on keeping on with what they do as much as possible.

I was into dance as a girl and remember getting a ribbon stick (what they use in rhythmic gymnastics) around that age which I got quite a bit of mileage out of. There are toy versions as well as higher end ones for performing.

Final, 53-page report of AAUP's Special Committee on Florida, on which I had the privilege of serving, is now published. Some themes from our dozens of interviews: "[T]he reality in Florida is 'Orwellian,' and Florida is the 'canary in a coal mine.'.... Being a bystander is no longer an option."

The Carters marked my first awareness of national politics as a young girl. ‘Service’ almost seems too small a word to apply… yet maybe that sense of how big and deep service can be is a superb legacy 🕯️ www.rosalynncartertribute.org/index.html

Feeling buoyed leaving our Advisory Board meeting for U of Central Florida's Women's & Gender Studies program, despite recent developments in state politics. Superb faculty, doing great work - tons of service learning - well supported by their administrators.
