Also, though sim-sub is frowned upon you can send simultaneous queries.

This is some years ago but might be relevant. My MS had been with a big trad publisher for 3 years. I'd left it since editor had expressed interest, but said she was busy. I got intrerest from Publisher 2, wrote to withdraw it. Suddenly Publisher 1 decided they were interested after all. Surprise!

A conversation on our Discord has prompted me to say again: remember, y'all, what really sells books is not the author talking about their work, but *readers* talking about it. Word of mouth drives far more sales than advertising or any other engine. So if you loved a book, tell your friends!

Thanks. My mum's postal vote has not yet arrived. Can't now chase it until Monday, but I will then.

So sorry to hear this. Will contribute. All this would be free at the point of need in the UK. USA health is so f****d.

I watched the British debate between Sunak and Starmer last night + the pundits' post-mortem. That's two hours of my life I'm not going to get back. It was very shouty. I think switching off the mics for the person who's not supposed to be speaking is a brilliant idea. (Still voting Labour.)

Our third house was much more honest. Everything needed doing - even replacing 200 year old plaster ceilings. We were prepared for thatone. And here we are 44 years later and it's almost finished.

I've been editing (2 books) for way too long. It's time I started a new project. I have several ideas in play. Trying to decide which one to go with, or whether to start something completely new. It's exciting and daunting at the same time.

When we moved into our second house (1970s) we discovered that the previous ownders had painted all the window frames with undercoat, but had only glossed the leading edges to catch the light. And they'd painted around a wardrobe in the bedroom, and then taken the wardrobe with them.

I just found an old photo of Dad in the 1950s - sitting at his desk at work - and he has the Parker 51 in his hand - the one that's sitting on my desk right now.

I fear so, but my husband is not of the same opinion.

We've lived in our present house for 44 years and I feel really sorry for our kids. They'll have to get rid of our stuff after we've been carried out in a box. Just the books alone - and I'm culling them as and when I can (much as it grieves me).

We just had the final debate between Sunak and Starmer before next week's election. It was very shouty, and to be honest neither came out on top from a personal point of view. I'm not sure it made a difference to the way people will vote. #vote the bastards out.

Really enjoying the writery threads and pen-and-ink threads on here. Much nicer than whatever is happening on ex-twitter these days.

Ah, I've just counted the pens (24), though only six are currently inked and in use. All my inks (23 and some cartridges) are in a Really Useful' box, but they are rapidly growing out of it. I still use the Parker 51 my dad bought for himself in 1955.

My weird “woman makes a boy to please her husband and things go wrong” feminist fairy tale “Mama Leaf” is in here right after the feature story from @neilhimself.neilgaiman.com! Plus lots of other amazing SFF tales PLUS a short essay by each author talking about the workshop’s affect on the tale.

New Review - I was hugely impressed by The Green Man’s Quarry by Juliet E McKenna that offers a big epic tale that regular series readers will love and is also a great place for new readers to try!

I just bought a TWSBI Go with the spring filler. It's a very nice everyday pen. I love the colour range of Diamine inks, though the sparkly ones tend to clog up my nibs sometimes.

A big plea to everyone I follow: please signal boost and send this to the queer writers you know, particularly more marginalised voices. I'd love for every colour of the progress flag to be in there by the time we're done.

I've taken toInsta for the last month or two. I have 1250 followers of thereabouts so it seems to be building nicely. I still use FB for friends + Insta for reading/writing/reviews. My blog is wordpress. I've dropped Twitter/X though I haven't cancelled my account yet. Bluesky is very new for me.

I realise I should probably mention I have also written 3 historical murder mysteries as JM Alvey, set in classical Athens, 5th century BC, between the Persian and Peloponnesian Wars. All 3 ebooks can be yours for under a tenner or local equivalent. Maybe take a look? Readers have enjoyed them.
