You can now walk from Holy Island to Portland without touching blue, if you fancy a birding holiday.

I love how Rohrwacher films don’t follow conventional narrative arcs/three-act structures. You never quite know where they’re going to end up! You may well have seen them, but if not, Happy as Lazzaro and The Wonders are well worth seeking out. As is her debut Corpo Celeste.

Well La Chimera (dir. Alice Rohrwacher) was a perfect way of while away the time before the exit poll. Josh O’Connor (my first film of his) is splendidly brooding, Belmondo bearding into Elliot Gould. And in fact though it’s set in the 80s the cinematographic vibe is gorgeously 60s/70s.

Belmondo and Elliot Gould are a very good reference points! (I have a bit of a crush on JO’C, even though I’m clearly old enough to be his mother.)

Mellow and melancholy film about two thirtysomething friends whose lives are going in different directions, but reconvene for a weekend camping. A great, understated film about the little strains of male friendship over time, it's also immersive and atmospheric. The music, as expected, is fab
